Rosa Velasco Ruiz was born in 1961 in Mexico City and from an early age began to study tapestry weaving, specializing in the creation of high smooth gobelins, in addition to mastering other textile techniques. She studied at the Taller Nacional de Tapiz, in Mexico City, and took weaving courses at both the UNAM and the Universidad Iberoamericana (Iberoamerican University). She was part of the Grau-Garriga Workshop in Barcelona, Spain, and received a scholarship from the French Government to study at the Manufacture Nationale des Gobelins in Paris and from the Norwegian Government at the Institute of Art and Design in Bergen, Norway. In painting she was a student of masters Vicente Gandía and Roger von Gunten.
Since 1984 she has participated in numerous group exhibitions of textile art in Mexico City, throughout Mexico and abroad. Her works are part of private collections in Mexico, Europe and the USA. At the end of 2007 she began to become interested in the expressive possibilities of collage, participating in several group and solo exhibitions with this technique. She has exhibited in several cities in Mexico and in countries such as Poland, the United States of America, Norway and Indonesia.
Her work shows a rupture with the personal, a search to compose from pieces and memories. Rich paintings that contain emotional and pictorial layers, creating an image that, at the same time, when observed, shows great depth revealing more contours and visions behind it.
