Bárbara Cruz was born in Necaxa, Puebla, in 1951. She was self-taught until she entered the Painting Workshop at the Instituto de Bellas Artes de Morelos (Institute of Fine Arts of Morelos) in Cuernavaca in 1984 and later, in 1989, the workshop of master Roger von Gunten.
