Tomás Gómez Robledo was born in 1952 in Washington D.C., U.S.A. He studied at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas de San Carlos (National School of Visual Arts of San Carlos) and the Escuela Nacional de Pintura La Esmeralda (National School of Painting La Esmeralda), where he was a student of Roger von Gunten, Gilberto Aceves Navarro and Vicente Gandía. He has been a professor at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas de la Universidad de Veracruz (Visual Arts School of the University of Veracruz), at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Visuales (National School of Visual Arts), and assistant teacher of Gilberto Aceves Navarro in his painting school.
He illustrated the 1985-1986 yearbook of the Auditorio Nacional (National Auditorium) in Mexico City and designed the commemorative plaque for the 45th anniversary of this venue. He is currently working with José Barbosa on a pictorial project for the Guggenheim Museum in Barcelona.
He imagines and interprets diverse scenarios where the most relevant aspect is the great display of color, which becomes the structure itself of his work. He uses few but contrasting shades of great strength and visual richness. It is color that creates the composition, the forms, the space. The large and continuous stains shape an open and vital image.
